The Algebra of Daylight.
2023 album
by Colin Little
Ever get so your dreams have run dry
No morning song and you need a lullaby?
Cloudberry pie
Voices calling as he gazed into the hazy green
And with eyes wide open he walked into the song machine
We twist and we turn – with the reeler’s flair
We’re dancing the butterfly dance
Higher and higher in the rarefied air
We’re dancing the butterfly dance
Do you have a box? A space in the cloud
Terabytes of data out in hyperspace
How many pictures, how many words up there?
Wonder what you’re writing there
Each and every day. A tv play?
Same place in the coffee shop
What’s on your screen? A magazine?
What do you say we find a way to bottle up today
Saving the spring and summer’s bloom
to sip again in winter’s gloom
What do you say we try
He stretched out a hand across all that time
His words recalled days of sunshine and wine
And evenings from a room with music and rhyme
And he sent her his last goodbye
And you know there’s no saviour to redeem you
Guess you’re gonna have to do it yourself
Got your music your books got your poetry
Got them all lined in order on the shelves
You been travelling a lonely road
Darkness all around – no messages from home
There’s a reason you’re out there by yourself
We can’t be with you – we’re stranded on our own
Out here the world needs no answers
No fear. There’s nothing to take her mind away
I’ve been borrowing these songs for fifty years or more
Now the music gods have crushed my fingers in the door
Graham I wish you could have made it
Graham I’d have liked to see you old
Graham I wish that I had visited
My dear friend
Not much going on today.
Broken world’s a thought away
A summer morning. A summer morning.
Take all the unsung melody. The torn-off edgy rhymes
The patterns of rhythm. The structure of lines
The spaces in between things, nights lying awake
The algebra of daylight. Equals mistakes
Your stun gun words stop my heart
Your blue spark kiss kicks the restart
Ac/Dc. It’s all gone static
Such high tension - my pulse is erratic
